Games:

When I realized last week that we could be facing self quarantine of sorts, I went to Target and purchased Jenga and Ticket to Ride. My daughter and I have been doing well in Jenga, while my husband has not faired as well. Ticket to Ride to Ride is actually really fun- it’s easy to learn, quick set up, not too long, but satisfying. After getting off to a slow start, I’ve gotten the hang of it and I’m on a two game winning streak. Lot’s of gun rummy, where we are all holding our own. I’m going to try to score more toilet paper at Target so will be perusing board games.

Stay well my friends. If you want to discuss any of those shows, book or anything, hit me up!

Thank you to all who have reached out and given virtual hugs and support to me, my family and my city!!

  1. We have been playing A LOT of Yahtzee and backgammon. Sean isn’t fairing well. lol. we have been binge watching some of the Harlen Cobin books Netflix has turned into series…The Stranger and Five. I also have a coloring book and some really nice pencils I am going to pick up today. I think I’ll post about it some time soon! Hang in there!!

  2. I’m glad you and yours are doing okay. Living alone, I’m basically just doing my regular at-home stuff only lots more of it, since I rarely go out. I do a long daily walk when the weather cooperates. Here in Texas, that’s pretty up and down (80 to 50, for example, with lots of rain thrown in). In addition to my typical Acorn PBS TV watching, I’ve also started The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and love it! Already the season finale of This is Us??? Went too fast. Randall seems to be awfully self-involved these days, but I guess he’s just trying to get by…

    1. Mrs. Maisel! How good is that show! Susie?! Plus the costumes!! And Randall….he is classic narcissist!! Be well, and feel free to dish after the finale! It’s going to be a doozy!

  3. I really admire how you’re plowing through the books. I have an old James Michener one that I promised myself I’d read, but it’s slow going. For once, we are current on ‘This is Us.” Last week’s episode, the one in which there were imagined scenes if Jack hadn’t died, I didn’t like that much. High hopes for a really good finale, though.

  4. I kicked myself for not going to the librsry before everything shut down. I still have some books to read but I read fast. My husband and I played music triviia game last night which I rarely beat him at but I did last night! 🙂 Its music from the 50-70’s period.
We saw a series on Netflix we want to watch. Self-Made, its called.
Oooh yes “This is Us!!!” I want to scream at Randy but I feel for him too!!

  5. I love games. Ticket to ride is a good one. I recently bought Rubik’s Race which is fun and doesn’t take too long to play. It can be hard work persuading others in my family to play games with me so short ones are better for them.

  6. I loved “The Library Book.” Here is my fun story about it: I had just finished it. My husband and I were out for a walk, and I was telling him how much I loved it and that he should read it, too. Just as I said this, I spied a purse hanging from a pole. I grabbed it and looked inside. No driver’s license, no credit cards, but sunglasses, earbuds, $40 in cash, and a check made out to “cash” for $40 with “1.5 hours + tip” in the memo line. Also, a LIBRARY CARD! It was from a library in Oregon. (We live in So. Calif.).

I called the library, asked for the reference librarian, and explained the situation. I read her the library card number (no name on it) and she said, “Oh, this is a young person.” I gave her my contact info. In a few minutes, the librarian called me back to report that she’d reached the young woman’s mother. She (purse owner) was on vacation in So. Cal. with her father, had stopped to take a photo (the purse was hanging from a pole on top of Signal Hill, which overlooks Long Beach Harbor and Catalina Island on a clear day), and left the purse behind.

She had just texted her mother to say she’d lost her purse. But, the mother said by then they were halfway to San Diego, 90 miles from here. Not to worry, I said. Give me your address and I’ll mail the purse. I boxed it up and sent it to Oregon. Now if the phone had been in the purse, that would have been another matter, because I’m sure she couldn’t have survived the rest of her vacation w/o it.

I just loved that it was a LIBRARY CARD and a LIBRARIAN who helped me get the purse back to this young person.

    1. That’s so cool!! I remember loving the library as a kid, and when my daughter was younger we spent many an afternoon there. I used to have the library hours and story times memorized!

  7. You’re cracking through books there! Let us know how you find the Self Care book please. I’ve been ploughing through a couple of chunky books but the daily long video calls to my mother are eating into my reading time. I recently finished The Overstory which was marvellous, and have just started the final book in Hilary Mantel’s Thomas Cromwell trilogy. Very invested in the story but her writing style is really irking me in this one, far more than the previous two. Still not sure how they both won the Booker prize though 🤨

  8. We’ve been doing a lot of movies recently, but I have a feeling that we may have to pull out Exploding Kittens or Dominion( for BG and me). We have a couple of other games that we all really got into for a while, but when the kids have a Switch, they are hard to pull away. Unless of course we are ALL playing a game like Fibbage on the Switch. That one may come out again soon.

      1. We started watching all the Marvel movies around Christmas and planed to work our way through the whole series, so we’ve been packing those in and only have a couple left now.

    1. It’s a reality show, so it depends on how much you like them. I am typically not a fan, but I thought this had some interesting sociological insights, especially given the social distancing now. What do you normally like and I’ll give you some ideas if I have any.

      1. Yep, he’s the one. He floats from Chicago to the University of Arizona and back again all the time. At least, he used to. I don’t even know if he’s still kicking. Anyway, God Game will give you a lot to think about.
